Faith as the Key to Receiving from God
Faith is more than just believing in God; it is trusting in his promises and his power to fulfill them. Faith is the key to receiving from God, because without faith it is impossible to please him (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is also the evidence of things not seen; the assurance of things hoped for (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is what enables us to overcome the world and its challenges (1 John 5:4).
But how do we grow in faith and receive from God? Here are some practical steps that can help us:
- Hear the word of God. Romans 10:17 says, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." The word of God is alive and powerful, and it can increase our faith as we listen to it, read it, study it, meditate on it, and apply it to our lives. The word of God reveals God's character, his will, his promises, and his plans for us. The word of God also corrects, instructs, encourages, and inspires us.
- Pray to God. Prayer is the way we communicate with God and express our faith in him. Prayer is also the way we ask for what we need and desire from him. Jesus said in Mark 11:24, "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." Prayer is not just asking for things, but also thanking God for what he has done, praising him for who he is, confessing our sins to him, and interceding for others.
- Obey God. Obedience is the proof of our faith and love for God. Jesus said in John 14:15, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." Obedience is also the way we align ourselves with God's will and purpose for our lives. Obedience brings blessing and reward from God. James 1:25 says, "But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do."
- Trust God. Trusting God means relying on his wisdom, power, and goodness to fulfill his promises and plans for us. Trusting God means not leaning on our own understanding or depending on our own strength or resources. Trusting God means not being anxious or fearful about the future or the present circumstances. Proverbs 3:5-6 says,
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight."
Faith is the key to receiving from God, because faith connects us to him and his grace. Faith is not a passive or static thing, but a dynamic and active thing that grows as we hear, pray, obey, and trust God. As we grow in faith, we will experience more of God's presence, power, and provision in our lives. May God increase our faith and help us receive from him!
